Samantha Chamberland - Assistant Trainer

Samantha, originally from Massachusetts, has been fascinated by horses for as long as she can remember and dreamed of being a horse trainer since childhood. At age 12, her mom brought her for what she believed would be a single riding lesson. However, she knew before the lesson was over that there was no way that would ever suffice. Sam was hooked instantly and spent the next 5 years riding under the instruction of Joanne Lawrence. By age 14 Sam was spending every possible day at the barn, grooming and helping out. As her family was unable to afford a horse at the time, Joanne would often find "project horses" for her to take lessons on and work with on her days at the barn. This was when Samantha's passion for training really took off.

At 17, Samantha began riding with Scott Travers and participated in her first horse show- Connecticut Morgan. She spent the next 8 seasons showing her Morgan Gelding, JBK Buck Dakota to many wins and high pinnings at the state, regional, national, and world championship level in Hunter Pleasure junior exhibitor, youth, amateur, and amateur ladies. Sam worked for Scott on and off throughout college and for 6 consecutive show seasons, grooming and helping get horses and riders in and out of the show ring. She even got opportunities to take a few young horses in the show ring along the way. After transferring to URI where she earned her B.S. In Biological Sciences, she began riding for the IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) team competing in hunt seat equitation. In her last year on the team she also founded and captained the IDA (Intercollegiate Dressage Association) team.

After a short apprenticeship with Smith Lilly learning about Saddleseat training and American Saddlebreds, Samantha has found her place here at Windward farm and is excited to be back on the Morgan Circuit!
